The Santa Clarita Valley splits its public schools across one high-school district and several elementary districts, all assigned by address. This guide shows which district serves which community and how to confirm a specific home.
How SCV school districts are organized
The Santa Clarita Valley does not have a single unified district. Instead, public high-school students across most of the valley attend one district — the William S. Hart Union High School District ("Hart District") — while elementary students attend one of several separate K-6 or K-8 districts depending on where they live.
This split matters when buying a home: the elementary district and the assigned schools are set by address, not by the community's marketing name. Two homes in the same neighborhood can fall in different attendance areas.
The high-school district: William S. Hart Union
The William S. Hart Union High School District serves grades 7-12 across most of the SCV, including Valencia, Saugus, Newhall, Canyon Country, Stevenson Ranch and Castaic. It operates the valley's comprehensive high schools and junior highs.
Note that the far-eastern rural communities of Acton and Agua Dulce are generally outside the Hart District and are served by the Acton-Agua Dulce Unified School District instead. Always verify by address.
The elementary districts by community
The SCV's elementary districts and the communities they primarily serve:
- Saugus Union School District — much of Saugus and parts of Valencia (including areas like Plum Canyon). K-6.
- Newhall School District — Newhall and parts of Valencia and Stevenson Ranch. K-6.
- Sulphur Springs Union School District — much of Canyon Country. K-6.
- Castaic Union School District — Castaic, including Williams Ranch, and the Val Verde area. K-8.
- Acton-Agua Dulce Unified School District — Acton and Agua Dulce (K-12 unified, separate from Hart).
Community-by-community detail is in each neighborhood guide — for example Valencia, Saugus, Canyon Country, and Castaic.
How to verify the schools for a specific home
Because boundaries are address-specific and can change, do not rely on a listing's stated schools or a community name. Instead:
- Confirm the elementary district and the assigned school using the district's official attendance-area lookup for the exact address.
- Confirm the Hart District junior high and high school for that address (or the Acton-Agua Dulce schools if applicable).
- Check for any open-enrollment, magnet or special programs separately — these do not change the home's assigned school.
- Re-verify before close, since districts can adjust boundaries.
We do not publish specific attendance-boundary maps here because they change and are best confirmed with the district directly.
Schools and home value
Assigned schools often factor into buyer demand in the SCV, but they are one of many considerations alongside price, commute, Mello-Roos and home condition. Fair-housing law prohibits steering, so we provide factual district and verification resources and let you weigh schools as you see fit.
Pair this with our Mello-Roos by tract guide and master-plans comparison when evaluating a specific home.

High schoolers attend the Hart District; elementary students attend Newhall School District or Saugus Union depending on the village. Verify by address.

How do I confirm the assigned school for a home?
Use the relevant district's official attendance-area lookup for the exact address, and re-verify before close since boundaries can change. We can help you confirm.
Does the school affect home value?
Assigned schools can factor into buyer demand, but are one of several considerations. We provide factual resources and avoid steering, consistent with fair-housing law.
Do magnet or open-enrollment programs change the assigned school?
No. Special programs are separate from a home's assigned attendance-area school. Verify each independently.
