Valley Circle Boulevard runs as the neighborhood's western spine. To the west, across the Ventura County line, is the gated community of Bell Canyon; the border area includes El Escorpion Park and the Upper Las Virgenes Canyon Open Space Preserve. West Hills is bounded by the Chatsworth Reservoir to the north, Canoga Park to the east, Woodland Hills to the south, and Hidden Hills to the southwest. (The Westfield Topanga mall is nearby to the east, in the Canoga Park/Warner Center area - not in West Hills itself.)

West Hills is served by LAUSD. Schools in West Hills include Welby Way Charter Elementary (and Gifted/High-Ability Magnet), Pomelo Community Charter, and Justice Street Academy Charter. Hale Charter Academy (middle) and El Camino Real Charter High School serve West Hills students but are located just over the line in Woodland Hills (91367).
