Santa Paula's identity runs through two anchors - a 130-year-old citrus company that's also one of the town's biggest employers and developers, and a century-old hotel that's become a local landmark.
Limoneira Company
Limoneira was founded in Santa Paula in 1893 by Nathan Blanchard and Wallace Hardison. Today it's publicly traded (NASDAQ: LMNR), one of the largest U.S. lemon growers and a large avocado grower, with roughly 10,600 acres of agricultural and real-estate holdings and significant water rights. It's one of the largest landowners in Ventura County and a major Santa Paula employer. Limoneira is also a residential developer: it's building the East Area master-planned community in Santa Paula (~550 acres, ~1,500 homes), marketed as "Harvest at Limoneira."
Glen Tavern Inn
The Glen Tavern Inn is a historic 1911 three-story hotel in Santa Paula, designed in Tudor-Craftsman style and listed on the National Register of Historic Places (1984). It's a genuine local landmark - and widely promoted as haunted, with paranormal-TV appearances. Treat the specific ghost stories as reputation and promotion (some were created for marketing) rather than documented history; the building's architectural and historic significance is the verified part.
The market
As of early 2026, the Santa Paula median sale price was about $735K (Redfin). For the full market, schools, and downtown heritage, see my Santa Paula real estate overview and the historic downtown guide.
