Piru is one of Ventura County's smallest and most historic communities - a citrus town with a recreation lake just up the road. Here's the real picture for buyers.
Lake Piru & Santa Felicia Dam
Lake Piru is a reservoir on Piru Creek formed by the Santa Felicia Dam (built 1954-1955), owned and operated by the United Water Conservation District (UWCD). The dam was built to recharge downstream groundwater and combat seawater intrusion; a hydroelectric powerhouse was added in 1987. The Lake Piru Recreation Area offers boating, sailing, water skiing, fishing, designated-area swimming, a full-service marina, and campgrounds with RV hookups.
The town of Piru
Piru is a small unincorporated historic town / census-designated place in the Santa Clara River Valley along Highway 126, about 7 miles east of Fillmore (2020 population ~2,587). It was founded in 1887 by Illinois publisher David C. Cook, who envisioned a "Second Garden of Eden," and remains heavily agricultural. Piru is also a long-running film and TV location. It is served by the Fillmore Unified School District (Piru Elementary in town; Fillmore Middle/High in Fillmore).
